How to protect Maiduguri metropolis, communities in Borno – Zulum
By Tada JUTHA, Maiduguri
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has said that the military, police and other security agencies have to wake up to ensure effective surveillances protect lives and property.
Zulum tasked the military and other security agencies at the weekend, while sympathizing with residents of destroyed houses at 1000 Housing Estates and Ngomari Airport Community in Maiduguri.

He lamented that it was unfortunate for terrorists’ attack to occur at this time, as peace gradually returns to the state.
According to him, it appears that the insurgents are closed to Maiduguri for the military to wake up with effective and efficient surveillances within and outskirts of the metropolis.
“This is something we should be able to avert,” he said, stating that effective surveillances could have prevented the terrorists from targeting the housing estates and communities yesterday with Rapid Propelled Grenades (RPGs).
He noted that there is something wrong that should be ‘promptly rectified’ by the military and other security agencies to secure the metropolis and other liberated communities.
Yesterday’s (Saturday) attack also led to residents’ panic in Ngomari Airport, Njimtilo and Shuwari communities with no loss of life.
The Governor therefore; called for the setting up of a committee to assess the damages inflicted on the houses and advise Government on measures to avert future occurrences.
On how to protect Maiduguri and environs, he said: “We’ve to fortify Maiduguri, as we will continue to do around other cities and towns across the state.

“We’ve to ensure adequate patrols on a daily basis to avert future attacks,” he pledged.
He also urged the military to wake up from its alleged instances of laxity to protect people’s lives and property and the nation’s territorial integrity.
