Initiate life-touching projects in host communities, Coordinator urges youth corps members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged Corps members posted to Gombe state to add value to their host communities Byro embarking on life-touching projects during their service year.
Mrs Ada Imoni, the Gombe state Coordinator of the scheme, gave the advice at the closing of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course at the Amada Temporary Camp in Akko Local Government Area of the state.

Imoni urged the corps members to focus on what they could offer their host communities and not what the communities could offer them.
She said with the training on dedication, hard work, discipline and leadership given to youth corps members, she was optimistic that they would touch lives and make positive impact in communities across the state.
“Primary assignment and the Community Development Service go simultaneously; so mingle well with members of your host communities, initiate viable projects according to their needs, mobilise resources and execute them.
“While most Corps members ask what the community has to offer, I charge you to go out there with the mind-set to think of ways to make lasting legacies to be remembered for.”
Imoni also charged corps members travelling home for the holiday to ensure they obtained permission through the proper channel of communication.
“You must also avoid night journeys. For those of you travelling long distances, break your journey once it is 6 p.m. and continue the next day.

“Most importantly, avoid boarding vehicles by the road side and accepting lifts also known as free rides. Use designated motor parks to travel at all times,” she advised.
The state coordinator commended security agencies, camp officials and the Gombe state Government for their efforts in ensuring the security and comfort of corps members throughout the year.
