Suspected Islamic State of the West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have abducted Dr Bulama Geidam at his official residence in Gubio of Borno State.
The kidnap of the medical doctor, followed the abduction last week of an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) staff, Alkali Mohammed in Monguno.
Gubio, 85 kilometres north of Maiduguri, has been severally attacked by Boko Haram insurgents, destroying many lives and property.
Confirming the incident, on Friday, in Maiduguri, Council Chairman of Gubio, Bukar Zowo disclosed: “The terrorists rode in camouflaged Hilux vehicles and motorcycles and entered Dr Geidam’s residence by 2 am.
“They abducted the medial doctor, without loss of life and property,” stating that the residence is near a military and Civilian JTF post in Gubio.
Zowo also denied that the torching of houses, were not carried out by Boko Haram terrorists, but a natural disaster from an inferno.
On the infiltration of terrorists, he said: “We had been meeting the welfare and logistical needs of Civilian JTF and hunters,” stating that they complemented the efforts of the military and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism.
Mohammed Shettima, a resident said that after the insurgents abducted the medical doctor, they attacked the General Hospital and torched 74 houses.
He said that there was no loss of life and property during the Wednesday attack and abduction.
“The house of Dr Geidam is just a few metres away from the Divisional Police Headquarters and a military formation located in the heart of Gubio town,” he noted.
