Tukur Abdullahi, Kebbi
In a bid to uphold the significance of marriage in Islam and support those unable to afford wedding expenses, the Kebbi State Government has organized a mass wedding for 300 couples.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented the bridegrooms, while the Emir of Gwandu, Rtd. Major General Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar, stood in as the representative of the brides.
Governor Nasir Idris, while commending his wife Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris for initiating the program under the NANAS Foundation, pledged to sustain it as an annual event for the benefit of Kebbi residents. He also urged the couples to uphold fairness and mutual respect in their marriages.
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu, highlighted the event as a call for well-meaning individuals to reflect on their contributions to assisting others in getting married.
Similarly, APC National Secretary, Dr. Tajuddeen Bashiru, noted that beyond facilitating the marriages, the state government was also empowering 300 families towards self-reliance.
The Kebbi State Government covered ₦54 million in dowries, along with furniture, food supplies, and other wedding necessities—excluding accommodation.
The event was graced by prominent Islamic scholars, including Sheik Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Sheik Professor Mansur Sokoto, Sheik Professor Mansur Isa, and Sheik AbdurRahman Isa-Jega.
