Lake Chad Basin: MNJTF Reaffirms Commitment to International Laws in Armed Conflicts

The Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, has reiterated the organization’s dedication to upholding international laws, specifically those pertaining to armed conflicts.
General Ali gave the remarks while receiving a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) hailing from Chad at Headquarters MNJTF on 22 February 2024.

General Ali praised the ICRC for their unwavering support for victims of armed conflicts and expressed the MNJTF’s keenness to strengthen its partnership with the humanitarian agency.
He lauded the ongoing endeavors of the ICRC and emphasized the significance of abiding by established international laws and regulations that govern situations of armed conflict.
Against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the region posing threats to civilian populations, General Ali’s assertion holds significant weight. He conveyed his willingness to collaborate closely with the ICRC to improve the circumstances of those impacted by conflicts and to ensure that the actions of the force align with international legal frameworks.
This reaffirmation by the Force Commander underscores the MNJTF’s commitment to compliance with international laws and standards, underscoring the importance of safeguarding the rights and well-being of individuals affected by armed conflicts.
The leader of the ICRC delegation, Alfa Mamadou Djallo, outlined the purpose of their visit, indicating that their main objective was to update the Force Commander on the ICRC’s activities in Lake Chad Basin region. He emphasized the ICRC’s commitment to providing continuous support to the MNJTF in accomplishing its mandate. Djallo affirmed that the ICRC’s doors are always open and highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to assist and protect individuals in conflict zones.
