The holiday season in the Lake Chad Region has unfolded with a sense of tranquility and joy this year, allowing numerous resettled communities to bask in the warmth of familial bonds and shared love.
In the face of considerable economic hardships brought about by the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the Naira, inhabitants of the region are expressing profound gratitude for the return of peace, a feat attributed to the operational efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
Ezekiel Moses, a resident of Monguno, reflected on the soaring prices of essential commodities, particularly food and livestock, such as goats and sheep. Despite these challenges, he expressed elation over the successful military operations that have effectively subdued insurgent activities in the region. “I am truly thankful that we could experience a peaceful Christmas amidst the numerous challenges confronting our state and Nigeria as a whole,” he remarked.
Trésor Oumarou, who resides in Mora, underlined the significance of Christmas as a time for families to come together, pray, celebrate, and simply revel in each other’s company. He noted that many urban families had journeyed to the rural villages of their grandparents and older relatives, a tradition made possible by the improved security in the area.
The commendation of the MNJTF by residents echoes the sentiment that the concerted efforts of the joint task force have not only contributed to the restoration of peace but have also fostered an environment where cherished traditions and familial connections can flourish without fear or disruption. As the region continues to navigate various challenges, the festive season serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and unity that prevail in the face of adversity.
