LG Chairman charges Ikorodu youths on armed forces recruitment exercise
The Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Wasiu Adesina, on Thursday urged youths in the area to take interest in the 2022 Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
Adesina gave this advice during a sensitisation on national unity at the council secretariat, Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to him, Ikorodu, over the years, has had the least number in terms of youth participation in the armed forces recruitment exercise but should do better in 2022.
“The youth should channel their energy and resilience to the armed forces recruitment exercise because the portal will soon be opened.
“On our part as government, we will see how we can be of assistance so that more youths will benefit from Ikorodu,” he said.
Adesina said that the recruitment exercise would reduce unemployment, and contribute to the stability, effective security and general development of the nation.
He appealed to traditional leaders and stakeholders to educate youths in their communities on the need for them to join the armed forces.
The Chairman, Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr. (Mrs) Muheeba Dankaka, said parents, guardians and local government chairmen should assist in providing logistics such as ICT Centres to ease registration when the portal opened.
Dankaka, who was represented by Mrs Oluwakemi Opakunle, said that FCC was established to promote national unity, foster national loyalty and give every Nigerian citizen a sense of belonging.
“Whenever advertisement for recruitment is out, each local government and the Local Council Developmental Areas (LCDAs) should support their candidates to increase the number of youths interested in the exercise,” she said.
Some officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) enlightened the youth at the event, urging them to erase the mindset that joining the armed forces was a death sentence.
According to them, there are many benefits to be derived from joining the armed forces which cut across remuneration, medical coverage, accommodation and retirement benefits, among others.
