Mallam Adamu Resigns from APC, Cites Disillusionment with Party’s Direction
Mallam Adamu Moddibo, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State and former secretary of Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s campaign organization, has announced his resignation from the party, citing deep dissatisfaction with its trajectory.
In a statement, Moddibo lamented that the APC had veered far from its founding ideology, which aimed to rescue Nigeria from crippling challenges. Instead, he argued, the party has plunged the nation into further chaos during its over-a-decade rule.
“People are feeling the pain as a result of inflation. In advanced countries, a leader who fails his people within a certain period steps down. But in Nigeria, the reverse is the case,” Moddibo said, pointing to controversial economic decisions like the simultaneous removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira.
“This is a country with no industries. We are virtually importing all our basic commodities, and the president has remained adamant, refusing to take advice. People with integrity cannot continue to stay in such a party.”
Moddibo criticized the APC’s federal performance, describing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as disconnected from the people’s needs.
While he acknowledged that governors have limited influence over federal policies, he accused the president of taking the nation for granted.
Reflecting on leadership appointments, Moddibo claimed that under Tinubu’s government, key positions have been unfairly allocated.
“Look at the sensitive positions Finance, the Blue Economy, and the Central Bank of Nigeria all occupied by Yorubas. Yet he calls himself democratic,” he said.
He also voiced concerns over the current tax reform bill, accusing the administration of prioritizing personal interests over public welfare.
“People elected him to protect their interests. Why is he safeguarding his personal interests instead? When policies are rejected by the public, leaders should return to the drawing board to amend them. This is democracy,” Moddibo emphasised.
While Moddibo has yet to declare his next political move, he assured supporters that he would announce his plans in due course.
