MCRP trains enumerators on GBV service providers in Yobe
By Njadvara Musa, Maiduguri
The Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) has trained enumerators on identifying Gender-Based Violence (GBV) service providers in Yobe state.
The enumerators are to end psychological traumas, including fear, anxiety, self-blame, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Declaring the training session open on Thursday in Damaturu, the Project State Coordinator, Musa Jidawa, disclosed: “Today’s stakeholders engagement and training of enumerators have attracted participants from nooks and crannies.

“They include the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Ministries of Women Affairs, Health, Religious Affairs, Justice, Enumerators and Youth, FIDA, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), as well as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim community.”
He said the focal areas of GBV mapping comprise medical service providers for GBV, shelter support, security and law enforcement, livelihood support, legal aid, as well as social support providers.
Jidawa, therefore, noted that the training and meeting with stakeholders are a critical recovery project, represented by various ministries, organisations and security agencies.
He said that the enumerators and stakeholders; are key drivers in the prevention of gender-based violence in the state.
The Coordinator continued; “We’re involved in the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, including health facilities, farm inputs and WASH facilities.
He said the livelihood interventions have the potential to change power balance by taking the necessary steps to prevent the occurrence of GBV.
“The change in power balance could mitigate GBV impact where all the preventive measures failed,” he said.
On sustaining the fight against GBV, he said: “Stakeholders’ inputs are given premium and all potential environmental and social risks are assessed,” noting that preventive measures are assigned and responsibilities shared for the implementation of the proposed mitigation plan.
The Coordinator continued; “At the end of the mapping exercise, we are to develop a referral directory that will enable construction workers at sites and any other GBV survivor to have access to service points with ease.
“The aim was to map the services that survivors of SEA and other forms of GBV can access in communities that are implementing MCRP.
“Activities during the mapping exercise include; stakeholder sensitization meetings to create awareness in the state for the mapping, service availability mapping to assess GBV prevention services and referral pathways in the selected local councils.”
