MNJTF Exposes ISWAP’s False Claims of Protection in Lake Chad Region

In a shocking revelation, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has debunked the false narrative propagated by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists, claiming to provide protection to communities in the Lake Chad region. A manipulated footage circulating on social media, particularly on TikTok, falsely portrays a harmonious relationship between the terrorists and local communities, including farmers, herders, and fishermen.
The truth, however, is starkly different. The MNJTF has documented numerous instances of forced displacement, brutal killings, kidnappings, and other heinous acts perpetrated by ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists, spreading fear and suffering among innocent civilians. These terrorists have devastated local economies, restricting freedom of movement and disrupting farming, fishing, and trade.
In contrast, the MNJTF has made significant progress in stabilizing the region, providing genuine protection to civilians, and creating conditions for sustainable peace and development. Over 30,000 refugees and internally displaced persons have been repatriated to their communities, with normalcy restored in several areas, including Kirawa, Banki, and Cross Kukawa.

This is in addition to reopening of key international routes, enabling free movement of goods and people. The Collaborative efforts with national operations have equally yielded significant successes.
Chief of Military Public Information Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba in a statement noted that, the MNJTF remains committed to ensuring peace, unity, and security in the Lake Chad Basin. The task force has urged social media platforms to monitor and remove content promoting violence and radicalization.
As the region continues to face challenges, it’s essential to separate facts from fiction and recognize the efforts of the MNJTF in promoting peace and stability.
