MNJTF neutralises dozens of insurgents, rescues 41 people in Lake Chad

Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), under Operation Lake Sanity (OPLS) in the Northeast, have neutralized dozens of terrorists in the Lake Chad region.
Scores of terrorists were killed during the ongoing clearance operations in the lake bordering Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger.
A counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, yesterday (Thursday) in Maiduguri, stated that the operation was to rout out remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents from the fringes of the Lake and Basin.

According to him, the counter-terrorism operations, are yielding positive results to restore peace in the Lake Chad region.
He said that during the March 28, 2022, joint operation, 21 women and 20 children were rescued by the troops.
Besides, he added that the communities of Cemente, Bagadaza, Zanari and Wulgo in the Ngala council of Borno state were also cleared, during the operations.
On the incessant attacks, he said: “There were two encounters with the Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Zanari hideouts,” stating the twin attacks were decisively dealt with.
He noted that this forced some of the terrorists to flee with gunshot wounds toward Lake Chad, bordering Chad and Cameroon.
Items recovered, he added include two gun trucks, 18 motorcycles and 22 bicycles destroyed in the operations.
Other weapons recovered comprise two rockets propelled grenade tubes, three rocket-propelled
grenade bombs, an NBST gun, two machine guns, three GPMG belts, a rifle magazine with 600 rounds of ammunition.
