In a significant blow to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist groups, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has successfully rescued 34 women and children, neutralized a terrorist, and forced three ISWAP fighters to surrender in a series of operations in the Lake Chad region.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF, the troops of Operation Lake Sanity 2, under Task Force Wulgo, conducted clearance operations in several villages on June 15, resulting in the rescue of the hostages and the neutralization of a terrorist.
Additionally, three ISWAP fighters surrendered to troops on June 17, and are currently undergoing interrogation. The fighters, identified as Babakura Abubakar, Abacha Kyari, and Mohammad Adam, were based in the Jabilaram camp on Lake Chad.
In a related development, an air interdiction mission conducted on June 9 destroyed three suicide vehicle-borne IEDs, poised for a major terrorist attack. The operation demonstrates the effectiveness of the air force units of Troops Contributing Countries in neutralizing high-value terrorist targets.
The MNJTF has reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism, ensuring the safety of civilians, and fostering a secure and peaceful environment in the region. The Force Commander, Maj Gen Ibrahim Sallau Ali, commended the bravery of the troops involved in these operations.
