Mozambique: Rwanda sends more troops to Cabo Delgado
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has confirmed that Rwanda is reinforcing its current contingent of 2,500 soldiers in the fight against Islamist terrorists in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, according to AIM.
According to the President, the arrival of more troops is a result of the departure of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

“When SAMIM definitively leaves the Macomia area, we’ll occupy it”, said Nyusi.
The Rwandan involvement, he added, cited by the German agency DW Africa, was “not because Mozambique can’t provide defense, but you can’t fight terrorism alone. But the greater responsibility lies with the Mozambicans”.
According to Nyusi, it is completely clear that Rwanda co-operates with the country, “it doesn’t co-operate with individuals. And the greatest pride we would have is to leave things well done so that they can continue”.
