No less than a dozen passengers were killed in a multiple auto crash along the Bayamari-Geidam road in Yobe state.
The road accident, which occurred at kilometre 20, Chelluri village, involved three vehicles, including a stationary truck.
Confirming the incident, on Wednesday in Damaturu, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Livinus Yilzoom, disclosed: “Yesterday’s multiple auto crash occurred at 10:00 pm involving a truck with registration number MAG 831 ZR and a minibus with registration number BAU 124 YF,” stating that the minibus rammed into the truck and burst into flames.
Consequently, 12 bodies of passengers, including 10 males and a mother and a child, were burnt beyond recognition.
Speaking on the cause of the crash, the commander said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that obstruction of the truck and overspeeding by the bus driver are causes of yesterday’s killing of passengers along this road.”
He warned drivers against night travels, as poor visibility has been compounded by the hazy harmattan season.
Yilzoom, therefore, urged motorists to strictly abide by all road traffic rules and regulations.
“These are to prevent future road crashes and loss of people’s lives,” noted the commander.
