NAF Receives Prestigious Global PR Award for Crisis Management in Barcelona
In a moment of triumph, the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has emerged as the recipient of the esteemed 2023 Golden World Awards (GWA) for Crisis Management. This prestigious accolade, presented by the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), recognizes NAF’s exceptional prowess in executing remarkable PR campaigns.
Earned within the ‘Crisis Management Category,’ this esteemed award was secured through a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Air Force and Image Merchants Promotion (IMPR) Limited. The latter is the esteemed publisher of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, both of which played integral roles in empowering independent media reports and third-party news narratives surrounding counter-insurgency operations.

Philip Sheppard, the Secretary-General of IPRA, lauded NAF and IMPR for their outstanding contributions. Particularly noteworthy were the alternative narratives and independent reports on counterterrorism campaigns, which garnered widespread usage in the media. These reports significantly bolstered citizens’ confidence in the military’s capabilities and served as a morale boost for the troops on the frontlines.
Following the presentation of the Crisis Management award by IPRA President Dr. Anne-gret Iturriaga Abarzua, Air Vice Marshall Idi Sani, the Chief of Administration of NAF, graciously dedicated this momentous achievement to the brave men and women of the Force. Their unwavering commitment and sacrifices in the face of adversity are instrumental in safeguarding our beloved nation.
“This recognition holds immense significance for the dedicated members of the Nigerian Air Force, who tirelessly labour day and night to devise enduring solutions to our nation’s prevailing security challenges – expressed Air Vice Marshall Idi Sani, overwhelmed with gratitude.
“The Nigerian Air Force, being a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s security architecture, finds itself in the middle of this situation, hence the need to deploy its fleet in decimating these criminals.
“However, its achievements sometimes get drowned in doubts expressed by our citizens, especially when we are the source of the success story. The need to think outside the box thus gave birth to the utilisation of a third-party medium to tell our story.
“To our amazement, the acceptance level of our successes being told by a third party received overwhelming cheers from many Nigerians, hence the reason why we are stuck with this strategy. We therefore recommend this strategy, especially for military institutions who find it difficult to sell their own story.
“I must also state here that this strategy was implementable through the directive of our amiable Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, whose inspirational leadership style has taken us to where we are today,” he said.
