NAHCON Warns Hajj Pilgrims: No Tolerance for Illicit Items
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has issued a strong warning against carrying illicit substances into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Hajiya Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director, Public Affairs, National Hajj Commission, made available to newsmen in Abuja.
The commission emphasised that Saudi Arabia’s strict laws regarding drug trafficking carry the penalty of death.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage is a deeply spiritual journey for millions of Muslims worldwide.
However, NAHCON has expressed concern that some pilgrims may inadvertently become conduits for illegal trade without their knowledge.
To prevent such incidents, the commission urges pilgrims to exercise extreme vigilance over their belongings, especially at airports.
“Your purpose in Saudi Arabia is worship; we must approach this sacred period with reverence and respect for the laws and customs of our host country.”
The warning extends beyond individual pilgrims NAHCON also advises State Pilgrims Boards to collaborate closely with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other relevant agencies.
Their joint efforts aim to apprehend anyone attempting to smuggle prohibited items into Saudi Arabia, thereby safeguarding the reputations of both nations.
As the Hajj season approaches, pilgrims are reminded to uphold their honour and dignity, knowing that any involvement in illicit activities not only brings shame upon themselves but also tarnishes their nation’s image.
With these precautions in place, NAHCON hopes for a safe and spiritually enriching pilgrimage for all participants.
