NCFRMI distributes food items, others to 1,000 IDPs in Bauchi
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has begun the distribution of food and non food items to over 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bauchi State.
Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, Federal Commissioner of the commission, stated this at the inauguration of the exercise, on Saturday in Bauchi.

She said that part of the commission mandate was to reach out to the displaced persons, adding that the exercise would cover 200 households in the state.
Sulieman-Ibrahim, represented by Alhaji Bello Mohammed, Acting Director, Human Resource of the commission, said the items would be provided to IDPs at Rundebe, Tirwun, Mori and Adamami communities in Bauchi, Misau and Shira Local Government Areas of the state.
She said that it became necessary for the commission to reach out to persons of concerns, especially with the increasing number of displaced persons in the country.
“NCFRMI is fully committed to seeking ways to alleviate the plight of persons of concern and ensure zero hunger for IDPs as well as asylum seekers, refugees and stateless persons through livelihood programmes and other activities of the commission,” she said.
She listed the relief items to include rice; maize, millet, beans, noodles, oil, toiletries, mattresses, mats, buckets, cups and sanitary pads.
According to her, the commission has initiated viable vocational skill programmes to empower displacec persons to enable them to become self-reliant.
She reitrated the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari towards improving the plight of the IDPs in the country.
In his remarks, Abubakar Mamsa, representative of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), commended the gesture, adding that it would assuage the sufferings of the displaced persons.

He warned against diversion of the items, and urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilisation the items to fend for their families.
Also speaking, Malam Yusuf Mohammed, a displaced person, commended the gesture, adding that it would ameliorate their sufferings.
