The Managing Director, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Alkali has distributed 460 bulletproof vests and helmets to Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) agro rangers and intelligence personnel.
According to him, the distributed gadgets are to protect the personnel while doing their jobs in Borno and Yobe states.
“We find it necessary to assist the Corps in any way the Commission can; so that they carry out the intelligence gathering and protection of farmers,” he said.
He disclosed that 230 bulletproof vests were handed over for distribution to agro rangers and intelligence gathering personnel.
While reiterating security in the Northeast, he said that the Commission’s work critically involves the development and recovery of livelihoods of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities.
Besides, he added that the NSCDC is one of the critical partners in the implementation of the Commission’s projects and programmes
He assured that the corps will be more confident in protecting people’s lives and property.
“The engagement of the NSCDC personnel will be sustained in restoring peace in the region,” he said.
The Corps’ Assistant Commandant General, Andy Dateer said the bulletproof vests and helmets will enhance personnel’s capacity to protect farmers.
“These protective gadgets will safeguard farmers and lands to ensure national food security,” he assured, noting that they will also boost the morale of personnel.
He, therefore, pledged that the NSCDC will reciprocate the gesture of protecting people’s lives and property.
