The North East Development Commission (NEDC) will fix up two hospitals in Borno State to improve the health care services there.
The hospitals to be completely renovated included the Maiduguri Eye and Dental Hospitals inaugurated by the state’s military administrator, Col. Abdulminini Aminu (ret. ), in 1987.
Unveiling the renovations of the two hospitals yesterday (Friday) in Maiduguri, the Managing Director of the Commission, Mohammed Alkali, disclosed: “The two hospitals are to be upgraded after we had inspected and assessed the existing structures and medical facilities along with the Medical Director of the Eye Hospital, Dr. Falmata Kyari.”
He noted that based on the concluded inspections and assessments of the eye and dental hospitals, surgical equipment and other medical facilities are required for the comprehensive hospital renovations.
“The doctors are to be fully equipped with modern medical facilities before they could render effective eye care and dental services,” he said.
Excited by the Commission’s interventions, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Prof. Mohammed Arab, said that the upgrade of hospitals’ facilities will boost the delivery of healthcare services to the people.
Besides, he added, the renovations of the two hospitals will also complement the training and retraining of more health workers in the state.
