NFF Crisis: Football Administrators Lauds FG’s Intervention
Football Administrators across the country applauded the Federal Government’s intervention to restore sanity to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The tenure of the NFF’s current administration ends in September, and over the years, the football body got into protracted crises before and after every election year.
And to avert the crisis that is looming, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has swiftly intervened and asked the Nigeria Football Federation to hold an election for its Executive Committee in September.
In a formal letter from the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to the president of NFF, Amaju Pinnick, the FG directed him to ensure that the 2022 NFF election is held not later than the expiration of the tenure of the present board in September 2022.
The letter also stated that “the instrument of football administration in the country, the NFF Statutes be amended to include other stakeholders, who had hitherto been disenfranchised or denied equal representation in the NFF congress.
The Federal Government, therefore, urged the leadership of the NFF to ensure that the “amended statutes reflect the national yearnings, aspirations and peculiarities of Nigeria as a sovereign nation whilst aligning with the principles and objectives of football as set by the world soccer governing body, FIFA”.
The action of the federal government was said to be necessitated by the tension that has continued to mount over what is seen in most quarters as Pinnick’s ploy to go for a third term which he had previously denounced.
