The Nigerian Army (NA) has dismissed a viral audio-visual report circulating online, which falsely claimed that the Army is recruiting Islamic fundamentalists and jihadists. The footage purportedly showed an officer urging Muslim young men to join the military to protect and propagate Islam.
In a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the Nigerian Army described the report as misleading and aimed at sowing discord and causing religious crisis. The army reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, impartiality, and the constitutional provisions guiding its operations.
The Nigerian Army assured the public that any deviation from its Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) is met with appropriate disciplinary action, regardless of personnel’s religious affiliation. The army urged citizens to disregard the report and unite against divisive tactics, emphasizing that Nigeria’s strength lies in its unity in diversity.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to serving and protecting all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic affiliations, and called on the public to work together to maintain peace and unity in the country.
