Nigerian Army Investigates Fatal Clash Between Soldier, Police Officer in Lagos

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has launched an inquest into the tragic incident that occurred on October 9, 2024, in Lagos, resulting in the death of a police officer following an altercation with a soldier over an alleged traffic rule violation. The Division has apprehended the soldier suspected of committing the offense.
The Nigerian Army has expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement. The soldier suspected of committing the offense has been handed over to the Military Police for further investigation and disciplinary action.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the Division is working closely with the Nigeria Police to ensure justice is served. The General Officer Commanding 81 Division has extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the Nigeria Police.
The Nigerian Army has reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining collaboration with other security agencies.
“A thorough investigation will be conducted, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken to ensure that justice is served.
“The Army will continue to sensitize its personnel to refrain from activities that could tarnish its image or breach trust with other security agencies and the civil populace.” Ayeni adds.
