Nigerian Army’s 6 Division Launches NAPEX Supermarket, Prioritizes Troops’ Welfare
In a move to boost the welfare of its personnel, the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has unveiled the Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Supermarket in Port Harcourt Barracks. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam,
launched the supermarket on October 4, 2024, reaffirming the division’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of officers, soldiers, and their families.
The NAPEX Supermarket, located within the Python Shopping Mall, aims to provide affordable shopping experiences for troops. Major General Abdussalam emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) command philosophy, which focuses on sound administration and personnel welfare. The COAS has implemented various people-centered welfare packages, including the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers.
The GOC also announced plans to establish a gas plant within the barracks, ensuring easy access to cooking gas at reasonable costs. This effort is part of the division’s commitment to sound administration, a key pillar of the COAS’s philosophy.
Major General Samson Jiya, Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee, highlighted the importance of welfare in effective troop management. He praised the NA’s efforts in raising the bar for troops’ welfare, citing the recent commissioning of a Petroleum Gas Plant at Headquarters 2 Division.
The NAPEX Supermarket will be managed by Bakan Gizo Pharmacy and Stores Limited. Brigadier General George Nkenke, Managing Director of NAPEX, thanked the GOC for the initiative, which will enhance the morale and fighting spirits of troops.
The launch event featured the unveiling of NAPEX signage, a facility tour, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs. With this development, the Nigerian Army reaffirms its dedication to prioritizing the welfare of its personnel and their families.
