Nigerian Government Urges Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid Israeli Attacks
The Nigerian government has advised its citizens in Lebanon to evacuate or relocate to safer areas immediately due to the ongoing Israeli military operations in the region.
The directive, issued on Wednesday by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), follows rising concerns over Israeli strikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties. NIDCOM urged Nigerians to take advantage of commercial flights still in operation to leave the country.
“Given the situation, Nigerians in Lebanon should consider leaving now or relocating to safer areas,” said Abdulrahman Balogun, NIDCOM’s spokesperson.
Israel’s military has launched a ground operation against Hezbollah forces along the northern border, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. Airstrikes have caused hundreds of deaths, destroyed homes, and displaced nearly 1 million people in Lebanon.
NIDCOM reassured that no Nigerians have been harmed so far and advised them to remain safe until a ceasefire is declared. The agency also confirmed that most Nigerians in Lebanon have already moved from the affected areas.
