NIS embarks on sensitisation against corrupt practices in Adamawa
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Adamawa on Tuesday embarked on sensitisation against corrupt practices in the service.
Speaking at the sensitisation in Yola, Ibrahim Mohammed, Controller, NIS, Adamawa Command, said that corruption was a cancer that had eroded trust, undermined the mission and betrayed the faith and trust the public had placed on the service.
He charged staff to ensure transparency, accountability with zero tolerance for corruption.
“To mitigate corruption and improve service delivery in the NIS, we must strengthen institutional checks and balances.
“We must also implement transparent and accountable processes, enhance staff training and welfare as well as leverage technology to reduce human intervention,” he said.
According to him, the scourge has undermined the integrity of institutions, compromised national security and betrayed the trust of the citizens.
“It must be confronted head-on, with courage, determination and a collective commitment to stamping it out in all It’s forms,” he added.
In his address, Bello Baba, representative of Anti-corruption and transparency service headquarters, Abuja charged everyone to take a bold step to say no to unacceptable behaviours.
He advised applicants of international passport to make their payments online toward reducing corrupt practices.
According to him, punishments recommended for an erring officer include dismissal, demotion of rank, suspension from work, in addition to other sanctions, corrective measures and reprimand.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the command also took the sensitisation for public awareness to international Airport, Yola, Federal Airport Authority Nigeria (FAAN) schools and distributed fliers to the public on the high ways. (NAN)
