North East Governors to establish regional airline
The North East Governors Forum has disclosed that plans are underway by the governors of the region to establish a regional airline to be called ‘North East Airline’.
The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Borno State, Prof Umaru Babagana Zulum disclosed this during the 7th meeting of the Forum held recently in Gombe State.
Zulum noted that since the formation of the forum two years ago in Gombe, it has become a formidable avenue for social cohesion and a rallying point for the region to collectively discuss and identify its common challenges and proffer pragmatic and viable ways and means of addressing them.
He also lauded the successes currently being recorded by the security operatives in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State while promising to continue to provide all the necessary assistance to them, in form of logistics and other essential requirements.
In his remarks, the chief host, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State said the meeting came when the country faces challenges of Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping and other disasters.
He added that the presence of the northeast governors at the meeting showed collaboration, unity and brotherhood among them.
Inuwa also appreciated the federal government for its interventions in the region through the North East Development Commission.
He urged federal lawmakers from the region to facilitate the construction of federal roads in the zone.
Those in attendance at the meeting were governors of Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, and Adamawa states and representatives of Taraba and Yobe states.
