NSCDC Nabs Notorious Street-Light Vandal in Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abuja has arrested a notorious street-light vandal in the Central Business District near the Ugandan Embassy.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Abdulmumuni, a 29-year-old from Hong LGA, Adamawa State, was apprehended around 2:30 a.m. following a tip-off about ongoing vandalism in the area. NSCDC operatives conducted round-the-clock surveillance before intercepting Abdulmumuni and an accomplice, who managed to flee. The suspects were reportedly digging out armoured cables and had disconnected the street lights, plunging the area into darkness.
The FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, noted that Abdulmumuni is a repeat offender who has previously been charged but returned to continue his activities. Odumosu called for stricter penalties for vandals, emphasizing that harsher consequences could deter others from engaging in similar crimes.
“Our Command will leave no stone unturned to protect public infrastructure and combat vandalism,” said Odumosu. He also urged residents to share credible information on suspicious activities, promising that informants’ identities would remain confidential.
“The fight against vandalism is a shared responsibility. We rely on reliable intelligence to prevent and apprehend criminals,” Odumosu added.
Abdulmumuni is currently in custody and awaiting trial, while the NSCDC continues to track his accomplice.
