NSCDC Records 113 Gender-Based Violence Cases, Convicts Two in Adamawa
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State has reported handling 113 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and securing two convictions between January and Nov. 14, 2024.
Nyako Hamid, the Command Spokesperson, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.
Hamid detailed the nature of the cases, which included child trafficking, family abandonment, human trafficking, and domestic violence.
“The command, under the leadership of Commandant Idris Bande, has made significant strides in addressing GBV by recording 113 cases this year. We secured two convictions under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act and the Penal Code, while another case is ongoing,” Hamid said.
He noted that the command successfully resolved some cases, particularly those involving family abandonment, while victims of trafficking were reunited with their families.
Hamid praised the forensic laboratory established by the Adamawa Government in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), which has enhanced their investigative efforts.
He urged the public to report GBV cases to the NSCDC and other security agencies to ensure justice for survivors and deter perpetrators.
