NUGA: Sports enthusiast donates free balls to Gombe varsity
Mr. Barbuwa J Kalla, a sports enthusiast based in Gombe State has donated free balls to the Management of Gombe State University in efforts to enhance students’ preparation for the Vice Chancellor game as well as the National Association of Universities Games (NUGA).
Kalla while presenting the free footballs, basketballs and volleyballs at the premises of the varsity on Wednesday said it was part of his efforts to promote sports in the institution.
Kalla while speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after the event stated that sports remained one of the meaningful ventures that could be used to engaged youths and drive their attention away from vices that they often engage in.
He said that his love for sports development prompted him to donate the free balls to augment what the varsity has towards ensuring that the students were well prepared with the needed quantity of balls to train for all competitions both internal and external.
“You will agree with me that ball is the most important tool you need in any sports be it football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and so on.
“And the lack of quality and even the quantity of balls could affect training, so I decided to come in to help in my own way because if you love sports , you must find a way to give to sports too and promoting sports development,” he said.
Kalla who has been promoting sports development in the state is also known for his huge support for the two NPFL clubs and encouragement to fans of the clubs towards eschewing violence during NPFL match fixtures being played at the Pantami Township stadium.
Kalla appealed to sports lovers in the state and Nigeria to imbibe the culture of promoting and encouraging sporting activities in their communities, adding that the government alone could not do the job.
The sports enthusiast who is also a sports analyst in the state and a member of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Gombe State chapter called on stakeholders in sports to make the right investments in sports to harness the potential in the sector and development talents that could represent the national teams in all sports.
Receiving the balls, the management of the state-owned varsity expressed appreciation while encouraging such attitude towards promoting sports development in the country.
