OurNigeria News Magazine emphasizes merit-based awards, says its awards not for sale
In an emphatic statement, OurNigeria News Magazine reaffirms the integrity and merit-based nature of its annual awards, underscoring that these honours are bestowed upon those who have made outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s unity and progress, as well as to humanity at large.
Dr A.K. Peters, the Chairman of the 2023 Awards’ Planning Committee (CPC), made this declaration during a press conference held in Abuja to herald the upcoming 2023 awards ceremony.
He stressed that the awardees would be individuals celebrated and rewarded for their exceptional leadership and dedication to the betterment of Nigeria.
The CPC clarified that these awards represent a prestigious recognition of carefully selected but often overlooked heroes, whose leadership has earned them admiration, emulation, and acclaim.
Dr. Peters said, “Let me sound it very clearly that OurNigeria News Awards are not for sale. Our awards are not for the highest bidders. Our awards are only for those who have scaled through clear-cut parameters, criteria, and scrutiny and competency appraisal of our eagle-eyed, conservative, old-schooled crack team of assessors.”
According to him, this year’s edition, themed “Providing a Podium for the Unsung Heroes,” is dedicated to honouring remarkable Nigerians who have achieved extraordinary feats in challenging circumstances without receiving due recognition.
Dr Peters lamented the tendency for sycophants to praise individuals with questionable characters and emphasized the importance of identifying and promoting individuals of good character, asserting that honour must be reserved for the truly deserving.
Scheduled for November 11th this year, the event will be chaired by retired Lt-Gen (Amb) Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff and former Nigerian Envoy to the Republic of Benin. The Special Guest of Honor will be Senator Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, and the Royal Father of the day will be His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja III, the Ooni of Ife.
Dr M.S. Abubakar, the Publisher of OurNigeria News Magazine, clarified that these awards are not aimed at politicians but at individuals who have excelled in their respective fields. He believes that these awards will inspire recipients to further contribute to the development of Nigerian society.
