Over 13,000 Students Participate in ASSEP Quiz Across North-East States

More than 13,000 Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) students from Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, and Yobe states are participating in the Academic Science and STEM Education Program (ASSEP) quiz assessment, aimed at enhancing STEM education and exam readiness.
The initiative, running from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21, is part of the Federal Government’s educational intervention under the North East Development Commission (NEDC). It aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to improve education outcomes in the region.
Students are being assessed in seven critical subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Further Mathematics.
The program is designed to promote academic excellence, foster mastery of STEM subjects, and equip students for national exams like WAEC, NECO, and JAMB.
State Participation and Monitoring
Participation figures revealed robust engagement, with:
Bauchi: 932 students from select schools.
Borno: 4,020 students from 10 schools.
Gombe: 5,002 students from 17 schools.
Yobe: 3,341 students from 8 schools.
To ensure fairness, vice principals supervise exams in schools other than their own, and answer sheets are centrally collected and redistributed for marking.
A Groundbreaking Initiative
Vice President Kashim Shettima, during the program’s launch in Bauchi earlier in May, urged governors in the region to leverage ASSEP to bridge educational gaps and improve learning outcomes.
The quiz assessment builds on this vision, providing practical learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA).
