Following the suspension of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, the National Working Committee of the party has appointed Umar Damagum to oversee the affairs of the party in an acting capacity.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday, at the party’s secretariat.
OurNigeriaNews had earlier reported that Ayu’s suspension was effected by the Ward Executive of the party in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

Addressing the media on Sunday, on behalf of Kashi Philip, the Ward Chairman, the Ward Secretary Mr Vangeryina Dooyum explained that Ayu was suspended by the Executive for alleged anti-party activities.
Ayu, had, however, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Simon Imobo-Tswam, in Abuja on Monday, described his suspension as an exercise in futility.
According to him, the so-called suspension letter was written by an illiterate, and only given to the coerced members to sign somewhere in Makurdi.
However, with the appointment of Damagun as acting National Chairman of the party, Ayu’s suspension has been confirmed.
A High Court in Makurdi, had also on Monday issued an interim injunction restraining Ayu from parading himself as the National Chairman of the PDP.
