PMB inaugurates Kano-Maiduguri road linking Bauchi, Jigawa
President Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Section II (Shuwarin-Azare) connecting Jigawa and Bauchi states.
According to a statement issued in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing stated that the recently inaugurated 142.2km dualised road had increased to five the number of such roads completed and handed over to various communities in Nigeria within three weeks.

“The other roads so far inaugurated by the President within the period include the Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Kontagora-Makera Road, Vandeikya- Obudu Cattle Ranch Road, Nnewe-Oduma Road and Kano-Maiduguri Road Section III (Azare-Potiskum),” the statement read in part.
In his address at the latest road inauguration, Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, called on Nigerians, especially the communities through which the roads passed, to take ownership and protect the infrastructure.
He was quoted as saying, “The roads have been built to the highest quality of design and workmanship in order to enable them last their designed lifespan.”
The President described the newly inaugurated roads as part of the Federal Government’s many roads to prosperity.
He said, “Now that we have this new and well-built roads, we have duties to ourselves and to other road users, which include avoiding abuse of the roads and compliance with the nation’s traffic laws as stipulated in the Highway Code.”
According to Buhari, the abuse of roads could take the form of overloading of vehicles and trucks which would accelerate pavement damage, spilling of petroleum products that dissolves all the components and allows water to penetrate into roads.
Others forms of road abuse, he said, included converting the road shoulders to permanent parking places, as this would bring the onset of road failure from the shoulder.
“We must all do our best to avoid these practices, report them when they occur and act in a lawful manner to stop them,” the President stated.

He added, “Accordingly, for the avoidance of any doubt, I wish to reiterate that the maximum driving speed on this and other federal highways nationwide is 100km/h and no more.”
Buhari also noted that both those employed directly to build the roads and the scores of suppliers employed indirectly by providing the machines utilised in the construction were not only nation builders but also the heart of the Nigerian economy.
