The Borno State Police Command has arrested 67 suspects for illegal possessions of arms, drugs and rape of a 10-year old girl in Maiduguri metropolis.
The arrests of the suspects were made in the last two months across the s wastate.
Parading the suspects, yesterday (Friday), in Maiduguri, the Police Commissioner, Abdu Umar disclosed that 30 suspects were in possessions of dangerous weapons, including daggers to cause public disturbances in the metropolis.
Umar, represented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sani Muhammed said that 22 persons were also arrested for possession of drugs suspected to be an Indian hemp.
Besides, he added that 11 other suspects were also arrested for armed robbery and house burglary in various parts of Maiduguri.
He said that the suspects had been using the weapons to cause public disturbance with threats to people lives.
On how they were arrested, he said: “This un-connected with the gallantry and unwavering efforts of the Command’s personnel; as well as the information provided by the people to the police.” Noting that no criminal in the state would go scot free.
Continuing, he said that the suspects will be investigated and charged to court.
Speaking on the rape case, he said: “On June 15, 2022, Usman Hassan, 24, lured his daughter Hajara, 10, into an uncompleted building on Baga road of Maiduguri, and forcefully had canal knowledge of her,” adding that the suspect was arrested for investigation before prosecuting him.
