Police arrest five suspects for kidnappings, others in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested five suspects for kidnappings with the rescue of one other person in the state.
The arrests were made in the suspects’ hideouts in Fika, Potiskum and Gujba Local Government Areas.
Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, yesterday (Sunday), in Damaturu, disclosed that four other members of the kidnap syndicate are however at large.
He said that the police are trailing the fleeing suspects for arrest and eventual prosecution for kidnappings and other crimes.

According to him, the arrests of suspected kidnappers are in continuation of police efforts to ensure security and public safety.
“We’ll continue with the massive clampdown on hoodlums’ hideouts in Fika, Potiskum, Gujba and Gulani Councils,” he said.
He added that Idi Isa, 56, of Karem village in Fika council was rescued, after being kidnapped on March 31, 2022.
Besides, he added: “Based on credible information, detectives from Fika Divisional Headquarters on April 17, 2022, mobilized to a hideout of kidnappers in Nafada council, Gombe State where the suspects were trailed to an isolated house.
“The suspects used the house for the safekeeping of kidnapped victims before ransoms are paid by their family members.”
He said that all the suspects confessed to the crime in addition to other crimes committed in various parts of Yobe and Gombe states.
The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Haruna Garba, urged the people to continue with their support by providing credible information in the fight against crimes.
