Police Arrest Woman with 350 Rounds of Ammunition in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old woman in Buni Yadi for allegedly possessing 350 rounds of live ammunition.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the suspect was detained on October 20 after officers discovered the ammunition hidden in her luggage during a routine search of a vehicle headed to Damaturu.
“On October 20, 2024, around 6:30 p.m., officers at ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Damaturu, acted on credible intelligence regarding a suspected arms trafficker traveling to the state capital,” Abdulkarim said. “A Golf 3 saloon car was intercepted, and a thorough search revealed 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition concealed in the suspect’s belongings.”
The woman is currently being interrogated to determine her connections and the intended purpose of the ammunition.
Yobe Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Ahmed, reiterated his commitment to cracking down on criminal activities and urged the public to report any suspicious behavior to authorities.
“The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any unusual activities, persons, or objects to the nearest police station,” Abdulkarim added.
