The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects found in possession of 61 stolen mobile phones worth an estimated N35 million.
Police spokesperson SP Nahum Daso, in a statement on Saturday, revealed that a crack squad acting on credible intelligence intercepted the suspects, identified as Ba’isa Yerima (25) and Lawan Yusuf (26), along Polo Road, Maiduguri, on March 15, 2025.
“The suspects specialize in purchasing stolen phones, hacking and bypassing their security passwords, and reselling them at competitive market prices,” Daso explained.
Among the recovered devices, seven have been identified as previously reported stolen and were tracked down by the police squad. The authorities assured that efforts are ongoing to return the recovered phones to their rightful owners.
Residents who have lost their phones are advised to visit the Police Crack Squad office on Airport Road for identification and retrieval. They can also contact the police through 08068075581 and 08023473293.
