The Borno State Police Command has re-arrested an escaped convict, Kyari Kur, in Gubio, 85 kilometres north of Maiduguri.
Confirming the re-arrest of the 28-year-old convict, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, stated Friday in Maiduguri that Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy at the Medium Security Custodian Centre, Maiduguri.
The commissioner attributed the escape of Kur to the recent flooding of Maiduguri, which led to the collapse of perimeter walls of the security custodian centre last month.
On how Kur was re-arrested, Yusufu said: “On October 10, 2024, police surveillance at Gubio divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur was sighted in Gubio town.
“We swiftly responded to the credible information by arresting him and taking advantage of the flood disasters.”
He said that the convict has already been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NoC) for further action by the security agencies.
The commissioner, therefore, appreciated the cooperation of the general public and urged them to continue providing credible and timely information on the activities of suspected criminals.
“Members of the public are to report any suspicious activities or information on fugitives to the nearest police station or through the following channels: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293,” said Yusufu.
