Police seek Shehu of Borno support to protect residents’ lives, property

The Borno State Police Command has sought the support of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi to secure residents’ lives and property.
According to the monarch, the 14-year Boko Haram insurgency, has claimed the lives of 14 District Heads and dozens of his nephews and other people in the emirate.
The Borno emirate comprises 16 Local Government Areas in the State.
While seeking El-Kanemi’s guidance and support, yesterday (Thursday), at the Shehu’s palace, in Maiduguri, the Police Commissioner, Mohammed Yusuf, disclosed: “Today’s visit was to solicit for your royal blessings and guidance of the traditional institution in protecting people’s lives and property.”

He noted that the police cannot effectively function, without the support and cooperation of traditional rulers from communities.
He said that the visit to the palace; was not only historic, but to sustain the protection of people’s lives and property, after the restoration of peace across the state.
Excited with the Commissioner’s visit, the Monarch, pledged to continue support the police and other security agencies in securing the state against insurgency and other criminalities.
He noted that the State is one of the most peaceful in the country, as the people are peace-loving before the Boko Haram insurgency of July, 2009.
He, therefore, commended the Borno police command for its efforts in securing the state to sustain peace and stability.
