Rep El-Rasheed inaugurates 5 solar-powered boreholes to tackle water crisis in Gombe communities
Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed, member representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has inaugurated five solar-powered boreholes in five communities under his constituency to tackle the challenge of water scarcity.
Speaking at the inauguration of the projects on Saturday in Nafada and Birin Bolewa communities of Nafada LGA of Gombe State, El-Rasheed said the gesture was part of effort to fulfill his campaign promises to his people.
El-Rasheed who had on Friday inaugurated similar projects in Jamari, Malala and Gombe-Abba communities in Dukku LGA said access to water supply was a major challenge in his constituents.
According to him, the issue needs the attention of Government at all levels and relevant agencies to address.
He said that he was taking all necessary steps to draw the attention of every stakeholder to the plights of his people with regard to finding last solution to the water scarcity challenge.

“As a representative of the people of Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, I will work to provide solutions to most of their identified problems.
“I will also work to alleviate their sufferings particularly in aspect that are critical and essential to human survival.
“It’s gratifying to inform you all that in our quest to ensuring the availability of portable water across Dukku and Nafada, I have inaugurated five solar-powered boreholes.
“These boreholes are located at Jamari; Malala and Gombe-Abba wards of Dukku L.G.A and Nafada and Birin Bolewa in Nafada L.G.A.
“The completed projects are part of the 2023 Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIPs) for Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency.
“My ultimate priority is to ensure that the people of my constituents are not left behind in terms of benefiting massively in all aspect of good governance across different sectors of our life,” he said.
According to him, he has within few months into office, moved two important motions in the floor of the house calling the attention of relevant authorities to provide a lasting solution to the water scarcity problem in Dukku.
He said the issue had become a serious challenge which needed urgent attention towards improving the wellbeing and welfare of his people in view of the importance of water to man.
In effort to sustain the projects, El-Rasheed said committees had been set up in the five communities to ensure proper maintenance of the boreholes for the benefit of the people.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed satisfaction with the projects, noting that it would help address the challenge of accessing drinkable water in their communities.
Malam Hassan Bappah, Birin Bolewa community said they had been having issues with accessing clean water for drinking which he said had resulted in several diseases for women and children.
Bappah said with the intervention, a lot of water-borne diseases would be minimised which would reduce the amount spent in treating children and women.
For 72-year-old Usman Umar from Nafada, it was a tale of excitement, noting that they had been spending huge money buying drinking water to avoid falling sick.
“This (solar-powered borehole) is good for us since we don’t need generator or wait for electricity providers before pumping the water; I commend the lawmaker for this gesture.”
NAN also reports that the lawmaker had on Friday inaugurated a medical outreach for residents from his constituents which would ensure free treatment for patients.
Patients suffering from hernia; hydroceles; lipoma; appendix; myoma (Eybroid); glaucoma and cataract among other medical ailments would be treated.
Surgeries will be performed on patients in critical conditions while drugs will be administered to those that are in the early stage of the sickness.
