Russia And Niger Pledge To Strengthen Military Ties
Russia and Niger, have agreed to develop military cooperation, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“The parties noted the importance of developing Russian-Niger relations in the defense sector and agreed to intensify joint actions to stabilize the situation in the region,” – the ministry said, adding that it aims to continue dialogue on “increasing the combat readiness” of Niger’s military.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Zeine discussed economic, trade and investment relations with Russian officials.

Russian diplomacy is in a favorable position in Niger after relations soured with former colonial ruler France following the July coup.
Russia is nevertheless emerging as the new preferred partner. A power that did not colonize Africa and that trained many of the continent’s soldiers after independence.
