SCI Meets Traditional Rulers to Mitigate Effect of Climate change against children

As part of its efforts to mitigate the effect of Climate change on children, A Non Governmental Organization, Save The children yesterday had meeting with the Borno State children parliamentarian and traditional rulers to sensitive them on how to contribute to the #generation-hope” awareness creation on climate change effect.
The meeting which was held at a hall in Pinnacle hotel, had in attendance district heads, ward leaders, emirate council members and representative of Children parliamentarian.

The leader of the NGO team in the meeting, Lami Balami noted that the theme #generation-hope campaign was put up to address the urgent need to develop strategies that will help people and children at the grassroots to identify the effect of Climate change and to foster relationship with stakeholders that will help in expanding the campaign.
She emphasised the need for people and especially children to learn and adapt to the changes in ways that will not affect them while noting that children are future hope and as such, they must be protected at all cost.
Speaking, The District head of Maisandari, Alhaji Abu Abubakar said that part of their discussion centered on the causes of Climate change which include Bush burning and deforestation. He called on the state government to establish laws and make effective the existing laws regulating some of these activities in order to mitigate climate change effect.
While appreciating Save the Children International, Honorable Abdulkadir Madinah, a child parliamentarian representing children of Dikwa Constituency thanked the organizers for the knowledge as it has exposed them to the causes and effects of Climate change on children and the society.
