Super Eagles Keeper Stanley Nwabali Mourns Mother, Two Months After Father’s Death
Super Eagles and Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been struck by another tragedy following the loss of his mother, barely two months after his father’s demise.
Nwabali shared the devastating news on his social media platform, X, on New Year’s Day, expressing his heartbreak. “RIP Mom, worst year of my life already,” he posted, accompanied by a tearful lament.
The South Africa-based player had earlier reflected on the challenges of life in a post that read, “A very very crazy world indeed,” before confirming the news of his mother’s passing.
This latest loss follows the death of his father in November, which occurred just hours after Nwabali featured in the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against Benin Republic during their 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
While Nwabali has not disclosed the cause of his mother’s death, the news comes as a stark contrast to his hopeful New Year’s resolutions. In the early hours of January 1, he had shared a recap video celebrating his achievements in 2024, writing: “2024 was a good year, we’re doubling everything in 2025. Thank you Chippa United FC. Thank you Super Eagles. Thanks to all my fans. Let’s do more!”
The back-to-back losses mark a profoundly challenging period for the goalkeeper, who now faces 2025 with an undeniable burden of grief.
