A governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba, Chief Victor Kona, has promised to consolidate on the achievements recorded by incumbent Gov. Darius Ishaku if elected as governor in 2023.
Kona stated this on Wednesday in Abuja shortly after expressing his interest and submitting nomination forms at the party secretariat.
The erstwhile state chairman of the party said the present administration had done a lot, pointing out that it would make it easy for the PDP to retain the state in 2023.
He promised that if elected as the governor he would further boost the agricultural sector while giving the necessary support to women and the youth in the state.
Kona, who praised Ishaku’s efforts at tackling insecurity in Taraba, said he would do everything possible to promote peace and development in the state.
On whether he was the anointed candidate to take over from the incumbent governor, Kona said his support cut across the state.
“Nobody has anointed me, it is only God that crowns leaders.
“You can see the caliber of people that are with me on this project from all the local government areas of the state and National Assembly. It attests to the fact that I have support across the state.
“My campaign team is made up of various professionals, business leaders, and other stakeholders.”
On the issue of zoning, Kona said that as the immediate past chairman of the party in the state it was zoning that produced the incumbent governor.
He said that based on the local arrangement, stakeholders were now clamoring that the gubernatorial position be zoned to the northern part of the state.
