Tinubu appoints Ola Olukoyede as EFCC Chairman
…names Hammajoda as Secretary
President Bola Tinubu has officially named Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This is a role that comes with a renewable term of four years, pending Senate confirmation.
This decision comes approximately four months after the suspension of the former EFCC Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

According to the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the appointment of Olukoyede was as a direct result of Bawa’s resignation.
The official statement, titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new EFCC Chairman and Secretary of the Commission,’ was issued on Thursday.
Olukoyede boasts over 22 years of experience as a lawyer specializing in regulatory compliance, fraud management, and corporate intelligence.
His familiarity with EFCC operations is extensive, having previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and as Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023, fulfilling the statutory requirements for the Chairman role).
In addition to the new EFCC Chairman, President Tinubu has also appointed Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda to serve as the Secretary of the EFCC, offering a renewable term of five years, subject to Senate confirmation.
Hammajoda is a seasoned public administrator with substantial experience in public finance management, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s in Business Administration from the same institution.
His career trajectory encompasses academia, banking, including roles at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
The President emphasized the importance of the new leadership’s responsibility in the national fight against corruption, highlighting the critical role they will play in implementing the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, which centers on a reformed institutional framework in the anti-corruption sector.
