Troops Conduct Successful Operation Against IPOB/ESN in Anambra State
In a joint operation, troops of Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III, in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and local vigilante groups, carried out a targeted operation on Monday, December 11, 2023, based on credible intelligence.
In a statement, Director of Army Public Relations Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said, the operation was aimed at dismantling camps belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in the general area of Orsumoghu, Anambra State.
During the raid, the troops successfully cleared and destroyed the IPOB/ESN camps, leading to the apprehension of one terrorist, while others managed to flee with gunshot wounds. Additionally, a pump-action rifle was seized during the operation.

Moreover, on Saturday, December 9, 2023, troops patrolling the Orsumoghu~Ukpor road in Ihiala Local Government Area encountered members of the separatist groups. The security forces’ superior firepower forced the criminals to abandon their position. Recovered items included 27 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 3 locally made hand grenades, 2 handheld radios, a set of NPF uniform, a fragmental jacket, and various charms.
Reacting to the development, General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada called on members of the public to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies with credible information through the Emergency Telephone Line 193 to enhance the fight against terrorism and other criminal activities.
He further called on citizens to go about their normal daily activities and businesses without fear of intimidation.
Exercise GOLDEN DAWN III was recently initiated in the South East region to bolster the security framework of the area during and after the festive season. This operation reflects the commitment of the security forces to maintaining law and order in the region.
