Troops Neutralise Terrorist Commander Abu Mosaje, 96 Others in One Week
The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops eliminated Abu Mosaje, a notorious terrorist commander and gunrunner, along with 96 other terrorists, in counterterrorism operations conducted across the country within the past week.
Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja, highlighting intensified military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, collaborators, and support structures nationwide.
Abu Mosaje was neutralised in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, while a wanted kidnap kingpin, Babangida Usman, was apprehended in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Babangida had been on the security watchlist for his involvement in criminal activities.
In another operation, troops arrested a gunrunner, Timothy Yusuf, and his son, Timothy Obadiah.
In the South-East, troops apprehended seven members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), including a notorious kidnapper and informants, in Enugu North and Ehime Mbano Local Government Areas of Enugu and Imo States.
During the week under review, troops neutralised 79 terrorists, arrested 224 suspects, rescued 67 kidnapped victims, and detained 28 individuals involved in oil theft.
In the South-South, the military disrupted oil theft operations, denying perpetrators an estimated N747 million. Troops destroyed 215 crude oil cooking ovens, 26 dugout pits, 62 storage tanks, 42 illegal refining sites, and recovered significant quantities of stolen and illegally refined products, including:
842,685 litres of crude oil. 12,340 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). 200 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK).
Other recoveries included weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and equipment:
104 assorted weapons, including 53 AK-47 rifles, 25 fabricated rifles, and seven RPG bombs. 1,953 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. Nine outboard engines, 35 motorcycles, and 22 mobile phones.
Maj.-Gen. Buba reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians, stating that troops remain resolute in their mission to eradicate terrorism and criminal activities across all theatres of operation.
