Walkathon promotes police fitness, community engagement in fighting crimes – CP Lawal

The Borno State Police Commissioner, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has said that the Maiduguri walkathon was to promote policemen’s physical fitness and community engagements in fighting crimes in the state.
Lawal unveiled the physical fitness of policemen on Saturday, in Maiduguri, while leading his deputy, Garba Bosso, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and the crime prevention partners.
“The 15km walkathon has demonstrated our commitment to the command’s agility and community engagements in fighting crimes.
He stated that they included gender-based violence (GBV), cybercrimes, vandalism, cultism, rape, drug abuse and trafficking, armed robbery, and the gang violence perpetrated by the youths.
Highlighting the significance of the walkathon for fitness, Lawal said, “The fitness exercise this morning began at the Police Headquarters, Maiduguri, and followed the roads linking Al-Ansar GRA Mosque, Lagos Street, Monday Market, and the Post Office Area, and completed it at the police headquarters at 9:00 a.m.
Besides the fitness of the policemen and women in fighting crimes, the police boss added that the activities lined up to mark the National Police Day will foster a strong and positive cordial relationship with the various communities the police serve by protecting people’s lives and property in the state.
Lawal emphasised the importance of the walkathon in strengthening community policing that will reinforce the values of unity, public trust and service to humanity.
