Campaign Office Demolition: We’ll remain law-abiding, says Danbarde
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial aspirant in Gombe State, Alhaji Jibrin Danbarde, has stated that his team would remain lawful regardless of the demolition of his campaign office by the Gombe State government.
Danbarde who condemned the attack said in spite of a court order restraining the State Government from demolishing the office, the government went ahead to disobey the order.
Danbarde who is currently in the UK responded by addressing newsmen virtually on Tuesday.
He said as a person that believes in rule of law, his team would continue to take legal means to address what he described as politically-motivated action from the state government.
“Our campaign office has been demolished by Gombe state government in spite of an order of interim injunction prohibiting the state government from demolishing or attempting to demolish the building.
“Sometimes in December 2021 we planned to complete the construction of the main reception office and we went to the state Development Board to validate an already existing approved building plan alongside our billboard which was approved sometime in 2018,” he said.
He stated that there had never been a time his team violated any building plan as they had always complied with all directives from the state development board and obtained necessary approvals before erecting any building.
He described the action of the state government as bad precedence for a state that should be promoting rule of law, especially going into the 2023 general elections.
He, however, stated that the action of the state government had no implication on his campaign, adding that his team remained resolute and formidable to work towards changing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in the interest of the people.
Also speaking, Director-General Danbarde Campaign, Alhaji Danazumi Mohammed said the state government had taken laws into their hands irrespective of the court order restraining them from demolishing the structure.
He said the court injunction was issued to them five days ago and it was posted on the wall so that whosoever comes will definitely see it.
The DG said PDP as a party being in power for 16 years have learned to handle situations legally to protect ” protect our democracy and ensure that peace is sustained.”
Mohammed alleged that the present administration in the state was bent on inflicting suffering on the people.
“ They came to the office, destroyed our structure and left without remorse; this is a breach of law by refusing to conform with the order of the state State High court.
“ We want to extend our message to our teeming supporters and people of Gombe to remain calm, be focused and remain peaceful,” he appealed.
