Why we’re documenting Yari’s leadership legacy- Zamfara APC forum
Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State under the auspices of APC Supporters Forum, said former Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State’s sterling performance in his eight years of being a governor should be used as model for leadership at all levels.
Hon. Abubakar Limanchi, the State Coordinator of the forum stated this when he led a team of supporters on a tour to Gombe State to document the former governor’s achievements in Gombe State.
Limanchi while addressing the executives of the Gombe State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) said that their goal was to present a historical record of Yari’s achievements, particularly in leadership, anti corruption and infrastructure development.
According to him, the team is in Gombe State as part of its tour to the 19 Northern States to present copies of magazines on Yari’s eight years of achievements to libraries and media houses.
He said that the forum was made up of supporters which were drawn from various states, and were voluntarily participating in the initiative to showcase the positive impact of Yari’s leadership on the people of Zamfara.
The forum coordinator said Yari’s impressive track record was the reason he was then elected as chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF).
“By documenting Yari’s accomplishments, the APC supporters aim to preserve his legacy and demonstrate their appreciation for his service to the people of Zamfara.
“His performance while in office as the Executive Governor of Zamfara State between 2011 till 2019 is something that is worth documenting for the future.
“From available records, as at the end of his eight year tenure, the state was not indebted in the payment of salaries to the civil servants.
“In a pragmatic way, the Abdulaziz Yari-led government made economic development a top priority despite the peculiar environmental and socio-economic challenges of Zamfara State,” he said.
Limanchi said Yari’s remarkable achievements while in the saddle as the fourth governor of Zamfara State would always be there to speak for itself.
While responding, Mr Faruk Mu’azu, the NUJ Council chairman in Gombe State commended the group for taking out time to visit the council and associating with the media in the state.
Mu’azu said that journalists in the state under his leadership remained apolitical but would always welcome ideas and initiatives that promote peace and development of the state and country in general.
He seized the opportunity to further appreciate the Zamfara State NUJ council for voting for Alhassan Yahya in Owerri that led to his emergence as the National President of the NUJ.
Mu’azu also thanked God for sparing the lives of the Zamfara NUJ members who were involved in an auto crash on their way back from Owerri.
